Outfitters and back-country enthusiasts are anxious for a decision soon to re-open the B-W-C-A Wilderness as weather conditions move toward less favorable for wildfires to further spread. Joanna Gilkeson with Superior National Forest:
“We’re eager to re-open and I think we’re getting to a point where we’re gonna feel comfortable doing that from a public safety standpoint — but we’re just still of course making our way through that and looking at all the factors that go into the decision.”
…among those, whether forecasted rain materializes later in the week. Gilkeson indicates certain areas in the B-W-C-A Wilderness could re-open for motorized day use, and overnight paddle could be allowed in areas where there’s no active fire threat.
