(Mankato, MN) — Mankato isn’t going to lose its “metropolitan” status anytime soon. Officials were worried after the White House’s Office of Management and Budget said it was considering changing the standard for a Metropolitan Statistical Area, which would have raised the population number to 100-thousand for consideration. But this week, the OMB said it was scrapping the proposal. Mankato could have lost out on thousands of federal dollars if the change had been approved. State and local leaders say they are thrilled the city will keep its MSA designation.
