Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids.  The misuse of and addiction to opioids is a serious national crisis that affects public health as well as social and economic welfare according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Learn more about this national epidemic Tuesday, October 15 from 2:30-4:00 pm at the VINE Adult Community Center.  Ruth Vortherms, Family Nurse Practitioner from Advanced Pain Management of Mankato will help define the opioid crisis in the U.S. and Minnesota, discussing factors that created it.  In addition, she will identify ways that various groups — from clinicians and pharmacists to state agencies — are addressing the problem and offering alternative treatments for opioid addiction.

The event is free for VINE members and open to the public for $5.  For more information or to register visit www.vinevolunteers.com or call (507) 386-5586.
