Wolf advocates are applauding after the Minnesota House narrowly approved a measure that would prohibit a wolf hunting and trapping season in the state. Doctor Maureen Hackett with the group Howling for Wolves says it will protect the animal for future generations. Backers of a hunting season contend Minnesota’s wolf population is robust and farmers are suffering from livestock predation. Governor Tim Walz last month indicated he had not yet decided whether Minnesota’s wolf hunting season should be re-instated, if federal officials lift protections for the animal in the Lower 48 states.
