It was a slow commute and a busy time for Minnesota State Patrol Monday morning.
State Patrol Lieutenant Gordon Shank said, “From 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., we had 173 crashes that the state patrol responded to, 15 which included injuries. We had no serious or fatal injuries as a result of the crashes.”
Shank also said there were 103 cars that went off the road and four jack-knifed semis and driving conditions remained tricky at midday.
Even as conditions improve later in the day, he cautioned drivers, “If it looks like the road is clear, keep in mind that there could be ice on the roadway. So, while we hope that the worst is behind us, just drive as though the icy roads are still an issue and make sure that you’re driving safely.”
If drivers do spin out and end up in the ditch, Shank is reminding them to call 9-1-1 and stay belted inside the vehicle.
