38 Degrees?????????

Sep 16, 2014 -- 5:43am

When I got home from work at 6:30 last night my daughters were watching old home movies on VHS. The movies were of the birth of our youngest daughter Maddie and all of the visits at the hospital and our home the weeks ahead.  But as always happens on our home movies...we just keep taping until we run out of tape.  So the tape runs thru Sept of the next year.  Sept 12th 19 years ago...our kids RAN THRU THE SPRINKLER in our backyard...it was THAT WARM.  It felt like summer in the middle of September...and now this morning Sept 16th...it was 38 degrees when I stepped out of the shower at 4:30 a.m.....PLEASE SOMEONE....BRING THE DARN GLOBAL WARMING...IT'S TOO COLD...TOO EARLY.  WINTER IS ON IT'S WAY.

I'm Still Sore

Sep 15, 2014 -- 6:02am

I helped sheetrock a basement on Saturday...and I am still sore.  We hung twenty 12 foot pieces of 54" wide sheetrock and my body is letting me know that it noticed. Neck...shoulders...back...triceps...yep they're all sore.  It was a productive day though as all of the ceiling went up and all of the outside walls were finished as well.  The inside walls and closets are next...then taping...texturing...painting...doors...trim and carpet and we put the remodel to bed.  It seemed like we were way further along until I just typed what was left.  Ugh

East Vs West...For The Jug

Sep 12, 2014 -- 5:52am

So The Cougars and the Scarlets meet tonight at Blakeslee Field for "THE JUG" in High School Football. East leads the series 22-19 but  West is on an 8 game winning streak...which by the way isn't the longest in the history of the Crosstown Battle...East beat West 11 straight times in the middle of the 40 plus year series.  West has won the last 2 games by a combined 99-0 which is the largest margin of victory of 2 games for either team.  West is ranked #1 in the State going into the game tonight...and is a HEAVY favorite to win....my guess is that they will score at will...and East will be hard pressed to get the ball in the End Zone...I'm thinking a 35-13 score sounds about right.  But having broadcast this series a number of times I know that anything can happen...and has happened in the past.

I will be behind the mic at Loyola tonight as they take on the Bulldogs of JWP...should be a fun COOL night.

Uncle Wally is 94

Sep 09, 2014 -- 5:46am

Wally Zellmer is 94 years old today and for KTOE listeners it's time to cheer.  Wally and Esther have been longtime listeners to KTOE and everyone knows them.  But my association with the Zellmers goes a little deeper.  Wally is my late Grandmothers Brother.  So Wally is my GREAT UNCLE.  I remember Wally kissing the coffin at the cemetary at her funeral in 1989 and saying "Goodby Florence"...such a beautiful moment between a brother and his sister...I'll never forget it.

Wally and Esther used to help out in the lunchroom at St. Peter and Pauls Elementary School and Loyola H.S. They put food on my tray in High School  and my childrens trays as well. For years and years the 2 would watch Loyola Softball games up on the hill as their Grand daughters played and then coached the team.  Esther loves Wally and Wally loves Esther and that is the way it will always be. Happy 94th Uncle Wally.

16-0 and 0-16

Sep 08, 2014 -- 5:45am

The Minnesota Vikings are on pace to go 16-0 this season and the Green Bay Packers are on pace to go 0-16.  Needless to say...I am ELATED!!!!!!I don't think I need to say anything else.  Had a great weekend with Anne and I helping sheetrock my Son Danny and Daughter in law Rachels' garage in Apple Valley. We listened to the Gophers win on internet on a gorgeous fall day and had taped the sheetrock before kickoff yesterday. In between we had a few cold ones and homemade lunches and dinners each day.  A good productive weekend.  YOU?

Tonights Going To Be Something

Sep 04, 2014 -- 6:00am

The Storylines available tonight at Blakeslee Stadium are many:  MSU vs ST CLOUD ST the MAVS Biggest  Rival comes to town. How About this? The team that ended the Mavs season in the Playoffs comes to town.  How About This? Todd Hoffner makes his return to the sideline after 2 seasons in limbo.  How About this? Isaac Kolstad will walk the team onto the field during pre-game festivities.

This game is a must see for so many reasons...the winner might very well be propelled in the National tournament...and this is the first game of the year.  The Loser could end up looking in from the outside at the end of the season depending on how it goes tonight.  Put all of those things together...and it seems to be more than the Huskies can handle...but who would have predicted their coming into Mankato last year and scoring 50 pts?
