An engineering program at Mankato East and West high schools has been awarded a $20,000 grant. The grant comes from non-profit Project Lead the Way, which provides a nation-wide engineering curriculum for 7ththrough 12thgrade students.
Mark Zenk, teacher at Mankato West, says the money will be used to purchase materials and equipment for hands-on, project-based classes for middle and high school students, district-wide.
District 77 offers six courses that introduce students to engineering concepts and emphasize in-demand industry skills, like problem solving and critical thinking. Zenk says the hope is to get those students involved in science, technology and math careers.
