A Mankato man is in jail following an assault in Le Hillier.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office says they received a call Sunday about a man, covered in blood, trying to flag down a car on County Road 69. Deputies arrived at the scene and found a 25 year-old Owatonna man who had been assaulted. He was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System – Mankato for treatment, then airlifted to another facility where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit.

Deputies say the assault occurred in at least two separate areas of Blue Earth County and at some point the alleged perpetrator, Dustin Lee Murilla of Mankato, took the victim’s car.

After a Minnesota State Patrol trooper located the stolen car near Eastwood Manor Mobile Home Park, local authorities were also able to take 23-year-old Murilla into custody. Murilla is currently being held in Blue Earth County Jail, awaiting formal charges.

Authorities have requested charges of attempted second-degree murder, second-degree murder, DWI and kidnapping.
