The lawyer for the North Mankato couple accused of starving their adopted son says county investigators jumped to conclusions.  Attorney Jason Kohlmeyer said yesterday that the boy had a food hoarding problem so the parents put an alarm on his door to stop him from stealing food.

Mona and Russell Hauer are charged with six counts of malicious punishment and neglect of a child.  The eight year old weighed less than 35 pounds when he was treated at the hospital.  Nicollet County Judge Todd Westphal has ordered the boy to be placed in foster care, but allowed his siblings to return home with the Hauers, with conditions.
