Police say a Waseca man assaulted hospital staff and tried to spit on them early Saturday morning in Mankato. 33 year old Casey Sather was arrested, pending charges.
Commander Deb McDermott with the Mankato Department of Public Safety says spitting is normally considered assault, but when the suspect allegedly has a communicable disease and knowingly tries to spread the disease by spitting on someone, the charge escalates to a felony, which is what police are requesting in this case.
McDermott says police allege Sather kicked hospital staff and officers before he was restrained… and a spit mask was put on him to stop further spitting. Police wouldn’t identify what communicable disease they claim is involved.
