YWCA Mankato is proud to announce they will host a “Back-to-School Bash” open to all kids who attend school in the Greater Mankato Area. The free event will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Sibley Park Shelter #2, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Families can come and enjoy games, crafts, a photo booth, food, and other activities. YWCA Mankato will also provide school supplies for families experiencing financial hardship.

Lydia Jagodzinski, Youth Programming Coordinator, says, “We are asking for community support to help us provide basic school supplies for our families in need.” She says, “People can either drop off supplies at YWCA Mankato during working hours or shop from our Amazon Wish List before August 19th.” The wish list can be found on the YWCA website at ywcamankato.org.

YWCA Mankato supports families through providing access to programs such as Girls on the Run, Girls, Inc., and GEARS (Girls Empowered and Riding Strong). The agency also supports the immigrant and refugee population through its New American Families (NAF) program. YWCA Mankato recognizes that families establishing themselves in the United States for the first time can experience unique obstacles, which can negatively impact their health and well-being. The New American Families program works to eliminate these barriers by providing families with the resources they need to thrive. The YWCA multilingual team currently serves Latinx and Somali communities in Mankato and St. Peter.

YWCA Mankato’s mission focuses on racial and gender justice issues. For more information about the Back-to-School Bash or the YWCA’s work, please contact Kim Danger, Interim Executive Director, at [email protected]
