A good number of Democrats broke ranks Monday afternoon as the Minnesota Senate passed the Republican majority’s get-tough-on-crime package, over objections of some D-F-Lers who say it does little to address root causes. Democratic Senator Susan Kent from Woodbury says the G-O-P bill…
“It is clearly long on fear and rhetoric, but it falls far short of what law enforcement experts tell us are proven ways to reduce crime today and prevent crime tomorrow.”
Republican Bill Ingebrigtsen from Alexandria responds:
“Every night there’s crime going on, unbelievable amounts of crime going on. That’s the data that I bring. That’s the data that my constituents are concerned about.”
A bill moving forward in the Democrat-controlled Minnesota House focuses on prevention, and the two sides will have the task of trying to reach a compromise.
