The Mankato Area Foundation (MAF), in collaboration with the Olseth Family Foundation; Minnesota  State University, Mankato (MSU), South Central College (SCC), and Recharge America is proud to  announce the third annual (with COVID interruption) Recharge Mankato. The event includes free test  drives of electric vehicles (EV) and a technology expo. Open to the public, the event is taking place from  10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th, at the Maverick All-Sports Dome on the MSU campus. New this  year is the incorporation of electric bikes available for test rides, courtesy of Gustavus Adolphus College.

In 2019, the event brought community leaders together to highlight the importance of electrifying the  region’s transportation. Over 1000 individuals attended the event and over 500 participated in an EV  experience either with test drives or riding on an electric bus. For each test drive, $20 was donated by the  Olseth Family Foundation to Mankato VEX Robotics. This philanthropic component will be incorporated  again at this year’s event – with both Mankato East and Mankato West Robotics teams giving  demonstrations of their latest challenges to Recharge Mankato attendees.

Recharge Mankato began in late 2017 when the Olseth Family Foundation partnered with MAF and MSU to create our first ever “EV ride and drive” to promote plug-in vehicle adoption throughout the Greater  Mankato region. Their dream was to engage our community around EV adoption and infrastructure to  position Mankato as a leader in the state for the emerging clean energy economy. Since then, the region  now has over 25 EV charging stations, with more to come.

“It is amazing for me to see how this region has embraced the concept of electric vehicle adoption and  the infrastructure to support it. I am so pleased that the Olseth Family Foundation had this bold vision – and asked us to be a partner. We are definitely setting an example for the state,” said Nancy Zallek,  President and CEO of MAF.
