What Republicans say was Tuesday’s deadline, came and went with no agreement on replenishing the state’s Unemployment Insurance Fund which has been depleted by COVID. Senate G-O-P Majority Leader Jeremy Miller says:
“Small businesses will now start paying higher taxes and fees because House Democrats did not take action.”
House Democrats says Republicans refuse to expand COVID bonuses to cover all of Minnesota’s front-line workers. Democrats want a billion dollars from the budget surplus for that. Republicans respond 250 million is the number agreed to last summer — and a good portion of the surplus should go to permanent tax relief for *all* Minnesota workers.
