Governor Tim Walz and legislative leaders are expected to meet again today to negotiate a deal to replenish the state Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund and funding for frontline worker bonuses. Walz says…

“The positions are layed out pretty clearly it is our position that both of these things are good for Minnesota, both of these things could be done, both of them are not only keeping our promises, keeping our pledge making sure that taxes don’t go up on businesses, but they’re fiscally sound decisions, too.”

Republicans accuse Democrats of “inflicting harm on their own constituents” and small businesses rather than stopping “this massive tax hike.” The negotiations are underway as lawmakers continue trying to come to an agreement on how to best deal with a record $7.7 billion projected budget surplus.
