With Minnesota’s budget surplus now over 9 billion dollars, Governor Tim Walz is tripling his original tax-rebate check proposal — one-time payments of about 500 dollars for singles, and a little over a thousand dollars for couples:

“I think the reason the checks make such a difference now is you can put a significant amount of money in the hands of about 1,000 dollars a couple or so right now. Many of those folks would be the same folks who would receive the HERO pay up to about 1,500 dollars and then some of the tax cuts that are being proposed they’d see as an ongoing basis.”

Senate Republican Majority Leader Jeremy Miller says government is over collecting and Minnesotans deserve significant permanent tax cuts.
