North Mankato, Minn. North Mankato Police are investigating a scam complaint in which a resident received a telephone call from a party claiming to be an investigator with the Nicollet County Sheriff‘s Office. The caller claimed to be Investigator Marc Chadderdon, who is in fact a NCSO investigator, and advised that the person had missed grand jury duty and because of that had to pay a $2,000.00 fine or face arrest.
The caller asserted that if the person hung up the phone they would be “non–compliant” and likewise face arrest.
“Scammers can be very convincing. Their claims of who they are, the authority they claim to have, the threats they make, and even the phone numbers they use, can easily lead people to think they are legitimate and coerce people into paying,” says Chief of Police Ross Gullickson, “If you ever receive an unsolicited phone call from someone who demands personal information, money, gift cards, or some other type of monetary instrument, it is a scam. Hang up the phone.”
