Advocates continue to call for change in the aftermath of the Minneapolis police shooting and killing of Amir Locke. Hundreds took to the streets downtown over the weekend calling for justice.

“We’ve been campaigning for community-controlled police for a few years now, and I think for us that demand is demand is becoming more and more urgent for us, it’s clear that the people that are in charge of the police department, mainly the Mayor’s office, are not able to control the police.”

Jae Yates is with the group Justice4Jamar. Locke was fatally shot while apparently asleep and holding a firearm during a police raid last week. Since then, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has announced a ban on almost all no-knock warrants except in cases of imminent danger.
