Democrats are looking for a win after voting rights legislation failed in a U-S Senate vote Wednesday. Carleton College Political Science professor Steven Schier says it looks to be an uphill battle for the party…

“The economy’s in bad shape in terms of inflation, it’s something that everybody feels, on the other hand, government is not able to affect inflation in the short term very quickly and as long as that hangs around throughout the year and as long as covid hangs out throughout the year, Democrats are in trouble.”

Schier says divisions within the Democratic party have been an obstacle, but he says that’s “baked into the cake” and there’s not much the President can do about that. But Schier says it does demoralize the Democratic base, which could be a problem for the coming mid-term elections.
