It’s too soon to do it, but maybe time to start thinking about a good way to dispose of the Christmas tree and other holiday greens.  Mark Abrahamson with the state Ag Department says curbside collection or designated drop-off-locations are the best options to keep “hitchhiking” invasive pests from spreading:

“The thing we don’t want ’em to do is toss the tree out in the back yard and forget about it, or the backyard compost pile where, when the weather warms up in the spring and summer, that these things could then be escaping into the environment.”

Abrahamson says if your city or county doesn’t have organized pick-up or drop-off, the last resort would be to promptly burn the greens — but always check and follow local ordinances.
