12/21/21 Sports Update
— The Vikings defense stood tall in a 17-9 win over the Bears on Monday Night Football at Soldier Field. Minnesota forced three turnovers in the win. Kirk Cousins had a pedestrian 87 passing yards with two touchdowns and an interception, and Dalvin Cook rushed for 89 yards to go over one-thousand rushing yards for the third consecutive season. The Vikings move into the seventh-seed in the NFC playoff picture with a 7-and-7 record. They host the Rams on Sunday.
— The Wild weren’t able to stop the Stars offense in a 7-4 loss in Dallas. Cam Talbot allowed six goals on just 28 shots. Kirill Kaprizov led Minnesota with a goal and three total points and Kevin Fiala scored twice,. The Wild have lost four straight. They will not play again until they visit the Jets on December 27th as the NHL announced yesterday that it was putting the entire league on pause until after Christmas starting tomorrow because of an increase in COVID-19 cases.
— The Timberwolves could be without a pair of key players for the foreseeable future. Guard Patrick Beverley and forward Jarred Vanderbilt entered the COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols yesterday, joining teammates Anthony Edwards, Taurean Prince, and Josh Okogie. In order to add some depth, the Wolves signed power forward Chris Silva, who was waived by the team in training camp. Minnesota goes for its fifth-straight win tonight at Dallas.
— Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week. Towns averaged 28 points and seven rebounds per game last week as the Wolves won all three of their contests. It’s the fifth time that Towns has won the award in his career.
— Three Vikings players were announced to the NFC Pro Bowl roster yesterday. Running back Dalvin Cook, wide receiver Justin Jefferson, and safety Harrison Smith all made the team. The NFL announced the three players in an early reveal ahead of the main announcement scheduled for tomorrow night.
