Closing arguments begin this morning (Mon) in the manslaughter trial of ex-officer Kim Potter, and Hamline University legal analyst David Schultz says what the defense needs to stress about Potter to the jury…
“She knows she made a mistake but, guess what? It was an honest mistake and, given her exemplary record as a police officer, we should consider that in terms of your deliberations.”
Schultz says the prosecution might have pushed Potter too hard in Friday’s cross-examination, perhaps making the jury more sympathetic — however…
“What I wonder is… even if she made an honest mistake, even if she genuinely… didn’t mean to do it — which no one thinks she meant to do — are they willing to let her walk away completely, with somebody who’s dead as a result?”
