12/20/21 Sports Update

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Timberwolves led for most of the second half in a 111-105 victory of the Mavericks at the Target Center. The two teams traded leads seven times during the tightly-contested match. Karl-Anthony Towns led Minnesota with 24 points, and D’Angelo Russell poured in 22 on a night where the Wolves were without Anthony Edwards. Minnesota has won their last four games, and they’ll visit Dallas tomorrow night.

(Chicago, IL) — The Vikings-Bears rivalry continues when Chicago hosts Minnesota at Soldier Field on Monday Night Football. The Vikings are in the thick of a jam-packed NFC Wild Card race. Minnesota beat Pittsburgh 36-28 last week to improve to 6-and-7. They are currently on the outside looking in for the postseason with the number-nine seed. Minnesota will be without cornerback Bashaud Breeland, who was waived by the team this weekend following an altercation at practice. Wide receiver Adam Thielen is questionable with an ankle injury. The Vikings have lost five of their last six games against Chicago.

(Dallas, TX) — The Minnesota Wild will try to end a three-game losing streak when they visit the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center tonight. The Wild are 19-8-and-2 following a 3-2 shootout loss to Buffalo on Thursday. Minnesota also announced that its game against the Red Wings scheduled for this Thursday has been postponed because of COVID issues for Detroit. Tonight’s game against Dallas starts at 7:30PM.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Minnesota Gophers offensive lineman Blaise Andries is heading to the NFL. He announced his plans to enter the NFL draft last night. Andries was named a first-team all-Big Ten player by the media after starting in all 12 Gophers games this season. Andries is expected to play in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on December 28th when the Gophers play West Virginia.

(Orlando, FL) — With his son Charlie by his side, Tiger Woods is making a strong comeback to competitive golf. NBC Sports’ Dan Hicks tells the Today show it’s remarkable, given the seriousness of his car wreck earlier this year.  The pair finished second in the PNC Championship in Florida over the weekend. The event, which partnered champions with their family members, was won by John Daly and his son, John Daly the second.
