In keeping with this Christmas Season’s theme of “Hope Marches On,” The Salvation Army is providing a different kind of relief this year.
The food assistance will be offered in-person only on December 14, from 3PM-7PM, in The Salvation Army’s Youth Center – located at 700 S Riverfront Dr. No appointment is needed. The Head of Household must be present and provide a state issued I.D., proof of government assistance AND current bill verifying residency. This service is for Blue Earth County and North Mankato residents only.
Please note there will be a change in voucher amounts and specifications from previous voucher programs. For this program, families with 1-4 members will receive a $40 voucher and families with 5 (or more) members will receive a $60 voucher for their Christmas meals. Vouchers will be for grocery items (as opposed to meat/dairy items like before), in hopes of meeting the dietary restrictions some may have. These are limited to the first 200 families that come for signups, with no extension offered after the event. Vouchers can be redeemed at Cub Foods on South Riverfront.
“We are here to serve this community, and this is a simple and effective way to do so,” said Lieutenant Andy Wheeler, one of the officers in charge of the Mankato Salvation Army. “We only get to serve this way because God has blessed us with the resources to do so. We get to help Hope March On for these hurting people.”
