The 2021 “State of Lung Cancer” report from the American Lung Association shows that Minnesota ranks fourth in the nation for the five-year survival rate after initially being diagnosed. Spokeswoman Pat McKone:
“But when you compare it some of the low rates we are starting with, we can do a lot better. Lung cancer is the number one type of cancer that kills more women and men than any other type of cancer.”
The report reveals the lung cancer five-year survival rate increased 14.5% nationally to 23.7% yet remains significantly lower among communities of color.
