A Hennepin County judge late Tuesday reversed her earlier ruling and granted a media coalition’s request for live streamed coverage of the upcoming trial of former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter, who faces manslaughter charges in the shooting death of Daunte Wright.

Judge Regina Chu says ongoing concerns about the COVID pandemic are “front and center” in reconsidering her earlier decision — but also that public and media interest appears to be more substantial than originally thought.  The judge says she changed her mind because of those circumstances — and that it “most emphatically is not a reflexive response” to recent protests at her home.  Chu says the decision to allow A/V coverage was made before the protest and is based solely on concerns for public health and safety.
