The St. Paul City Council last week introduced an ordinance that would limit the number of the city’s tobacco licenses and set a 10-dollar minimum for packs of cigarettes. Jenny Song with Blue Cross Blue Shield Minnesota hopes other communities throughout the state follow suit.

“Overall the ordinance is aiming to create accountability and essentially send a strong message to both retailers and the tobacco industry.”

Song says the proposal, if passed in St. Paul, would be among the strictest in the nation.
