34.2 million Americans—just over 1 in 10—have diabetes. It is the leading cause of blindness, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and amputation of the lower extremities.
“Diabetes is a growing problem, including here in Mankato,” VINE’s Fitness Center Coordinator, Jen Wunderlich said.
VINE Faith in Action is committed to helping fight this disease by offering a free diabetes program to help those locally affected by the disease.
By improving food choices and increasing physical activity, people can manage their diabetes or cut their risk of developing type 2 diabetes in half. VINE’s Living Well with Diabetes Program is designed to help adults gain skills to manage or prevent type 2 diabetes. Classes are held on Tuesdays, October 12 – November 16 from 1 – 3 pm at the VINE Adult Community Center.
Thanks to support from the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, VINE’s Diabetes Program is free and open to the public. Individuals who have diabetes can learn more about the program or sign up by contacting VINE at 507-386-5588 or visiting vinevolunteers.com.
