Governor Tim Walz this afternoon (145pm) visits a metro area school, continuing his push for COVID-19 testing of students and staff.

As of a couple days ago, fewer than two-thirds of Minnesota schools had requested their portion of 55 million dollars in federal money to implement testing.  On Tuesday, Walz asked the legislature to implement COVID vaccination and testing requirements for teachers and school staff, saying he’s ready to call a special session as soon as there’s agreement.   Senate Republican Majority Leader Jeremy Miller from Winona responds he’s confident they can reach an agreement on the initial issue of bonus pay for front-line workers but “the growing list of requests from Governor Walz is not productive” toward ensuring that happens in a timely manner.
