(Basswood Lake, MN) — An Illinois teen is breaking a Minnesota state record by reeling in a 46-and-one-fourth-inch pike. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says 15-year-old Brecken Kobylecky took a fishing trip in June to Basswood Lake when he reeled in the giant fish. The fish was photographed and released back into the lake. It was certified by the DNR last week. The previous record of 45-and-one-fourth inches was hooked in from the Rainy River in 2018.
