As of just past midnight, the Minnesota DNR removed fire restrictions in 14 counties as wildfire risk declines in northern Minnesota.

“Most of the areas of Minnesota are receiving some rainfall on a regular basis and as we move into fall, we have shorter days, which lessens the drying that we get in the morning, and we have higher humidity, which gives us greater recovery at night.”

The DNR’s Larry Himanga says the wildfire risk remains in the northeastern tip of Minnesota–so burning restrictions remain in effect for in Cook and Lake counties.
