— Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars are celebrating after the MTV Video Music Awards last night. Olivia Rodrigo’s hit “drivers license” took home the Moon Person for song of the year. Lil Nas X won Video of the Year for his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name) video. Justin Bieber, the most nominated act of the night, took home the Artist of the Year award. And, K-Pop sensation BTS were crowned group of the year.

— Britney Spears is an engaged woman. The pop star took to Instagram on Sunday to announce her long-time boyfriend Sam Asghari proposed. The two were first linked in 2016 after meeting on the set of Spears’ “Slumber Party” music video. This comes after Spears testified in court that she wanted to get married but claimed her ongoing conservatorship kept her from doing so. Last week, Spears’ father filed paperwork asking a Los Angeles court to “seriously consider” whether his daughter’s conservatorship “is no longer required” after 13 years.

— An actress best known for the TV show “Charmed” says she’s not a Hollywood Democrat anymore. Rose McGowan hit the campaign trail over the weekend to support Republican talk show host Larry Elder. He’s hoping to become the next governor of California if current Governor Gavin Newsom is removed in Tuesday’s recall election. McGowan called out those who criticize Elder because he doesn’t agree with the Black Lives Matter movement. She argued race labels are dangerous and people should focus on humanity instead.

— The stars will be out and shining at the upcoming Met Gala, often referred to as the fashion world’s Oscars night. The annual event is returning today in New York City for the first time since 2019, having been called off last year due to the pandemic. The theme this year is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and it appears the must-have accessories will include proof of vaccination against COVID and masks while indoors. Hosting duties are being split amongst singer Billie Eilish, tennis star Naomi Osaka, poet laureate Amanda Gorman and actor Timothée Chalamet, along with honorary chairs Tom Ford and Anna Wintour.

— Maya Rudolph and Dave Chappelle are bringing home Emmy Awards. During Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmy ceremony, Rudolph and Chappelle each won an award for their time hosting Saturday Night Live. Meanwhile, Claire Foy an award for guest actress in a drama series for her part in “The Crown” in its the fourth season.

— The remaining films being released by Disney this year will come out in theaters. Movies including The Last Duel, Ron’s Gone Wrong, and Eternals will be in theaters for at least 45 days. Others following that schedule include West Side Story and The King’s Man, which both come out in December. Meantime, the musical Encanto will be released on November 24th before Disney-plus gets it on Christmas Eve.

— The latest martial arts saga from Marvel Studios is this week’s top movie at the box office. “Shang-Chi” and the Legend of the Ten Rings” earned nearly 36-million-dollars in its second weekend in theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Coming in second is the Ryan Reynolds action movie “Free Guy” with almost six-million-bucks. In third place is the horror film “Malignant” — which earned five-and-a-half-million-dollars in its first week in North America’s theaters. Rounding out the Top Five are “Candyman” followed by Disney’s “Jungle Cruise.” The Aretha Franklin biopic [[ BYE-oh-pick ]] “Respect” starring Jennifer Hudson finished in tenth place.

— Comedian Kate Quigley is opening up following a near-deadly overdose. She issued a statement via Twitter on Saturday saying she has been released from the hospital and had time to put her feelings on paper. Quigley said she is overwhelmed by the outpouring of kind messages over the past week, and thanked the team of healthcare professionals that saved her life. She and fellow comedians Fuquan “Fu” Johnson and Enrico Colangeli and friend Natalie Williamson suffered accidental overdoses last week. TMZ reports their cocaine had been laced with fentanyl. Quigley was the only one who survived, and she said words cannot describe the pain she’s feeling over their deaths.

— Actress Tanya Fear is missing. Her manager said she was last seen in Los Angeles, California last Thursday. No other details about her disappearance were made public. She is best known for her work on “Doctor Who.” Her manager Alex Cole told NBC News she seemed fine when they were discussing work a little over a week ago. They added they are “shocked” she is missing.
