Officials are re-opening some additional portions of the B-W-C-A wilderness, effective Saturday (9/11).   Superior National Forest spokeswoman Joanna Gilkeson:

“With the fires not moving for the John Ek and the Whelp fires, we’re looking at shrinking the closure.   So we will keep the closure in place, but we’re looking at just scaling it down a bit.”

Forest lands and roads along the Gunflint Trail will reopen Saturday, but Trails End and Iron Lake Campgrounds remain closed.  The John Ek and Whelp fire closure area will shrink and some entry point will reopen — but closures remain in place for areas around the Greenwood fire, further to the south in Lake County.
