Governor Tim Walz, visiting a Rochester school says he shares parents’ concern about a “patchwork” of local school district policies on masks in the classroom.  The governor’s emergency powers are no longer in place, and Walz says he needs help from the legislature to address the situation:

“We will not let them push each other on the slides….  We ask them not to run on the playground.  For goodness sake, we’re adults and we know what protects them…. The science says, put them in a mask.”

Republican Senator Roger Chamberlain from Lino Lakes says “one-size-fits-all” doesn’t work:

“The districts have a lot of information from over a year of this stuff…. and we need to leave it up to those districts and those communities.”

Chamberlain says the governor re-declaring a peacetime emergency would be “problematic.”
