As expected, Brainerd Lakes Senator and former Majority Leader Paul Gazelka announced he’s running for governor, blasting Democrat Tim Walz for how he handled COVID, and the riots after George Floyd’s death:

“Tim Walz says he wants one Minnesota, but I’ve never seen Minnesotans more divided, angry and afraid than they are today.”

Minnesota D-F-L Party Chairman Ken Martin says Democrats pulled Gazelka and Republicans “kicking and screaming to the table” to talk about police reform, and Gazelka refused to hold a single hearing on it after Daunte Wright’s killing:

“I think most Minnesotans never want to see again a person murdered in the streets by the police, and there were lots of sensible reforms that were moving through the legislature, which Paul Gazelka and the Republicans refused to hear.”
