The Greenwood Fire in northeastern Minnesota is now burning more than nine-thousand acres near Isabella.  Officials says winds are likely to blame for the overnight growth.  Sarah Shapiro with Superior National Forest says it’s very important the public observe closure areas along State Highway 1 and County Highway 2:

“Need those areas closed not only for safety, but so firefighters can respond and access the fire area quickly, without people getting in the way.”

Officials are urging visitors and residents to stay well away from the wildfire area, and observe closures on State Highway 1 and County Highway 2:

“Having people respect the rules and follow closures is really important, and really it’s one of the best ways they can help us get these fires under control.”
