Republican State Senator Michelle Benson from Ham Lake says the party is facing major challenges amid controversy surrounding state GOP chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan after the indictment of a significant donor on sex trafficking charges. But Benson says…

“There’s a path forward for the Republican party, if we’re transparent and accountable it will be a place where we can proudly carry that brand again.”

Benson has called for Carnahan to step down, which, so far, Carnahan says she will not do. The controversy began late last week when Tony Lazzaro was indicted on sex trafficking-related charges. State party officials voted early this week to further investigate party finances and non-disclosure agreements initiated by Carnahan.
