Minnesota’s nursing homes and other long-term care facilities are feeling effects of the delta variant, with COVID cases among staff tripling in the past four weeks and resident cases also up. Only about two-thirds of nursing home staff are vaccinated, and that number is 64 percent for workers at assisted living facilities. State Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm:
“We are seeing some upticks in staff vaccinations in congregate care facilities. Still not as high as we would like it to be, but it has been improving.”
Malcolm says they’re glad to see organizations with multiple facilities that are either requiring staff be vaccinated or tested frequently — “but we’d sure like it to go faster,” she says.
