After hearing testimony from stakeholders over a number of days, a special panel today (noon) will begin narrowing down *which* front line workers should share in 250 million dollars in COVID bonuses authorized by the Minnesota Legislature.  Many acknowledge it’s not enough to cover everyone who deserves it.  Lisa Boulay  with Bemidji Community Behavioral Health Hospital told lawmakers Tuesday:

“Sure, I would love to get 15-hundred dollars, and I think I deserve 15-hundred dollars, but I’d rather get 200 dollars than nothing….  Actually, really, what needs to happen is the legislature needs to add more money to this.”

Governor Tim Walz said Tuesday there will be deserving frontline workers who don’t get a piece of the 250-million-dollar bonus package during a planned special session in September, but “that will motivate us to come back.”
