The state will give a 100-dollar VISA gift card to any resident 12 years or older who gets their first dose of COVID vaccine by August 15th, Governor Tim Walz announced Thursday.
Minnesota joins a Biden administration initiative, the governor saying, “Getting paid $100 to keep your family safe is a pretty good deal – all you have to do is roll up your sleeves.”
Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan says, “With school right around the corner, there is no better time to get vaccinated than right now.”
The governor says he will authorize up to two-and-a-half million dollars of federal American Rescue money to start up the program, and ask the legislature to approve additional funding. Walz says he’ll also work on public-private partnerships for a subsequent program to give Minnesotans, especially those in vulnerable and underserved communities, incentives to get the vaccine.
