Governor Tim Walz, in Mankato on Friday as part of his statewide education tour, got a tough question from a second-grader at Kennedy Elementary School:

“Do we have to wear masks in second grade, third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade?”

Walz:  “Well, first of all, thank you doing it last year.  You protect your parents, you protect (others).”

“She was fabulous, and I said what was really interesting about it, you have a second-grader with a poise.   She knew that she needed to ask me, and I share her sentiment on this:  wearing the mask was really hard.   She also knew it made a difference.”

Walz says he thinks “you will not see a statewide mask mandate” and local folks will be making the decision.
