With the phase-out of Governor Tim Walz’s COVID moratorium on evictions expected to begin soon, Housing Commissioner Jennifer Ho has a strong message for those behind on their rent:
“Renters, take action to apply for emergency rental assistance. Those that are eligible and refuse to apply can be evicted starting today.”
For information on rental assistance, visit RentHelpMN.org. A landlord can’t evict a tenant if the renter has a pending application for assistance. That measure will be in effect until June 1st of 2022. Also in a bill the legislature passed and the governor is expected to sign: A landlord must give a tenant written notice 15 days before beginning eviction proceedings.
