Governor Walz has taken executive action to improve community violence prevention and police transparency efforts. On Monday, the governor released a statement saying he was investing 15-million dollars from the American Rescue Plan in community violence prevention grants. Walz also issued directives to state law enforcement agencies to allow families to view video footage of fatal encounters within five days time. The governor’s action pushes his administration to collect and display Peace Officer Standards and Training Board policing data on a website dashboard as well. Walz says these changes will help create safer communities for all Minnesotans.
