The push to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act remains in limbo in the U.S. Senate.  Senator Tina Smith remains hopeful the bill will pass:

“In a moment where we are seeing rising violent crime rates in cities across the country we can see that there is a strong need to think about violence as a public health issue that we need to address.”

The bill passed the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives on a mostly party-line vote but it has not yet been voted upon by the Senate.  Today Derek Chauvin will be sentenced for the murder of George Floyd.
