(Los Angeles, CA) — Former ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast member Laraine Newman is the latest person to testify in the trial of real estate scion Robert Durst. Durst is accused of shooting writer Susan Berman to death at her house in Benedict Canyon in the year 2000. Berman was a longtime friend of both Newman and Durst. On Thursday, Newman testified that Berman once told her she provided a false alibi for Durst in connection with the disappearance of his first wife. But, she also claims Berman later backtracked and said she never did provide an alibi. Newman added that she’s ashamed she didn’t realize the significance of Berman’s revelation at the time. Prosecutors believe Durst killed Berman because she was the witness to a crime.
