A vote is expected in the Minnesota House today (Wed) on a transportation funding bill after the governor and legislative leaders agreed to a compromise package.
“It is vital that the state of Minnesota have a good, sound, modern transportation system.”
…Republican Senator Scott Newman from Hutchinson. Democrats pushed unsuccessfully for a gas tax increase indexed to inflation and a metro area sales tax increase for transit. Minneapolis Representative Frank Hornstein says long-term funding is required for much-needed improvements:
“That would have provided sustainable funding for a number of our priorities and initiatives.”
Republicans said “no” to any tax increases — pointing to a large state budget surplus and billions of dollars from the federal government.
