(Mendota Heights, MN) — Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights is getting a new name. The school originally named after the state’s first governor will be renamed “Two Rivers High School.” The school board approved the name change Monday night. The “Two Rivers” name was inspired in part by the school’s proximity to where the Minnesota River runs into the Mississippi River. Some community members called for the name change because of Sibley’s treatment of the Dakota people in the 19th century.
