(Minneapolis, MN) — Today is the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death. The 46-year-old died after former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for over nine minutes during an arrest. Floyd’s death sparked weeks of protests and unrest across the country. Chauvin was convicted of murder last month and could be sentenced to decades behind bars. Governor Tim Walz is asking for everyone across the state to observe nine minutes and 29 seconds of silence starting at 1 p.m.
