It’s Bob Dylan’s 80th birthday — the musical icon, born in Duluth and raised in Hibbing, now honored around the world after more than six decades as a pioneer of notes and verse.  In 2012, President Barack Obama awarded Dylan the Presidential Medal of Freedom:

“All these years later, he’s still chasing that sound, still searching for a little bit of truth — and I have to say that I am a really big fan….  Come on, Bob.”

In 2016, Dylan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature  “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition,” but he didn’t attend the awards ceremony, citing previous commitments, and accepted the Prize later in private.
