A Texas attorney is seeking a pardon for George Floyd in a 2004 drug arrest. Floyd, killed last year by former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin in an incident that sparked protests around the globe, was arrested in 2004 in Houston for selling ten-dollars worth of drugs. The arresting officer has since been accused of using false evidence in the arrest. Harris County Public Defender Allison Mathis is seeking the posthumous pardon for Floyd, arguing it would show Texas is interested in fairness and increasing accountability for police officers.
